# Profile

The Profile option will generate a horizontal profile section view of the points in a cloud as defined by a path created anywhere on the active map layer. It will extract the X, Y, and Z coordinates as well as other properties such as INT (Interval), DST (distance), and RET (return). The depth of the profile can be altered; enter the desired profile depth into the box located in the bottom right corner of the Measurements window (this is only visible when the Profile option is selected).

To view a profile of the point cloud, select the Profile tab in the Measurements window and click on two points in the active map layer to create a path. This will instantly generate a profile view in the main viewing window. Alternatively, you can use the Position tab (as long as two points are selected) and switch over to the Profile tab.

This is a useful tool to view the distance between each point in the cloud. You can zoom in and out and view individual points. If you need to pan horizontally, hold down the right mouse button and move in the desired direction.

Additionally, when in profile view, you can left-click, hold, and drag the mouse cursor to draw a hypotenuse triangle over the desired region. This will measure horizontal, vertical, and hypotenuse length. The lengths will be displayed in the lower right corner of the Measurement window. This is only visible when the Profile option is selected.
